It’s like car insurance but for your website.
By now you will know building a website takes a lot of time, deep thought, and decision making. For most, it represents years of dedicated learning, hard work, and business dreams condensed into just 5 – 20 pages.
That’s why we offer 3 WordPress website maintenance packages to keep your hard work safe. The last thing you want (and us too!) is to have your website hacked, not work properly, become slow to load or worse miss a potential sale!
What’s Included? Our 9-Point Care Plan – How we keep your hard work safe.
1. FULL BACKUP
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
This is different to the backup that your host may have. This backup is done in sections saving your database, theme options, and files separately; this means if only your files are infected we can restore the section affected so your database is not lost.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
It’s always good to have a master copy just in case something happens that removes your website completely. While it is unlikely, with all the constant creation of viruses and malware, full protection is not guaranteed (even Facebook has been hacked!). So this is an extra insurance and safety net.
2. CLEAN UP SPAM
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
SPAM are those annoying comments or emails you may occasionally get through your website and sometimes filter into your inbox.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
When your comment sections are filled up with spam messages, it’s harder for legitimate visitors to have conversations. Leaving spam comments on your content makes your site look unprofessional.
3. CHECK WEBSITE SPEED
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Speed of your website is important for users. When building your site, this is a high priority for us.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
Monitoring this enables us to check any changes in speed and identify how we can fix it.
4. CHECK FOR BROKEN LINKS
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
When changes to the site are made, links can be broken leading to 404 errors. We check all links to make sure none are broken.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
When you create a page on your website, it creates a URL that lives forever. If pages are not created properly or ones that are removed are not redirected properly, the URL will “break” if someone finds it.
This is not good for SEO because it sends a message to Google that the site is not being maintained.
This is very important for eCommerce stores, especially stores with products that change regularly.
5. CHECK CONTACT PAGE
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
One of the most common issues we find is a contact page that stops working. This can happen for a number of reasons and seems to affect clients who do not do updates or run Google Adwords.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
Clearly this is a big problem because there is no way to detect it and most clients find out because a customer tells them!
We have now added this to our process. On the day of your maintenance, our tech will send a simple email from your contact page asking for you to confirm receipt.
6. UPDATE PLUGINS
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Plugins are pieces of software that are added to your site to provide extra functionality to your website.
Just like you update your iPhone or operating system on your computer, plugins also require updating.
Reading this prior to updates enables us to check the areas that were noted in the change log.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
Increases security. Fixes bugs. More plugins mean a higher frequency of updates
Note – Updating plugins is a quick process HOWEVER the problem is updates can cause conflicts with other areas of your site which are not always noticeable. While we do everything possible to check the site, not everything can be detected.
7. UPDATE WORDPRESS THEME
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Here are two types of theme updates.
Like a car with different models, your website’s theme will also be updated. Depending on your site sometimes your theme may also be updated.
WordPress Update: These updates are more critical and can cause loss of theme customisations.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
Themes are updated to increase security by patching vulnerabilities and strengthening against attacks. To reduce the risk of your site being hacked or compromised in some other way, update! They also fix bugs that were not discovered in the previous versions.
8. CHECK YOUR NEWSLETTER
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
If you have a newsletter subscription we will check that it is working – ie the name and email is going to your CRM and the thank you message is appearing.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
You do not want to miss out on any subscriptions and the opportunity to build your database. While it is unusual it is best to check that it is working.
9. CHECK FOR MALWARE
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Malware are malicious programs that can perform a variety of functions such as stealing, encrypting or deleting sensitive data, altering or hijacking core computing functions and monitoring users’ computer activity.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
It can cause all sorts of different issues, some small that are not so noticeable to larger issues. Removing them so they are not on your site is key.

Does it include changes to my existing website structure?

Do I get notified before it’s done?
Clients are notified at least 5 days prior to the service that the service is due and asked to confirm the service BEFORE we start. On the day of service, you will also receive an email from our WordPress developer who will test your contact form.
Then within 1 week, you will be emailed a Web Care report that includes screenshots of what was done providing proof of the updates made.
